The Community-Based Student Development (CBSD) Program provides students majoring in public health the opportunity to gain hands on experience in working with the underserved and underrepresented communities in San Bernardino County.
Students from universities will be placed at our community-based organization in San Bernardino County where they will have the opportunity to work on various community oriented tasks.
While in the program, students will be trained to work effectively with the community as public health professionals, in order to be responsive to the needs of underserved and underrepresented populations.
Through the CBSD program, students can:

  • Strengthen public health skills.
  • Network with a variety of public health leaders.
  • Expand knowledge of community capacity building.
  • Develop skills to implement public health projects.
  • Receive diverse training at the community level.
  • Learn how to work effectively with underserved and underrepresented communities.

Here are a few areas that our student interns have received community-based experience in:

  • Infant Mortality
  • Ethnic centered research
  • Mental Health
  • Prostate Cancer
